Sherbrooke Nostalgia - Off to the Canada Summer Games
August 9, 2013
I can’t believe I am packing for my last competition of the season! Tomorrow I am off to Sherbrooke, QC to represent team Ontario at the Canada Summer Games. I am very excited as this is my first Canada Summer Games and I have heard that it is a lot of fun. With how stressful this season has been, I could definitely use some fun! I will be in Sherbrooke from the 10th until the 18th, competing this upcoming Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday (whew, I cringed just typing that!).
The first and last time that I represented team Ontario was at the Legion National Championships back in 2008, which oddly enough, was also held in Sherbrooke. On this team, I met a lot of incredible people who are now some of my best friends. I am excited to again be on a team with these people, back in the place where it all started for us! It is always fun to reflect back on how much I have matured as a person and athlete from these past competitions until now.
I was feeling a little bit burnt out both physically and mentally about a month ago after nationals, so the thought of competing in mid-August definitely worried me. To my pleasant surprise, I feel absolutely amazing! My body feels good – my movements feel clean and crisp. Yesterday was my last jumping practice with Coach Frank before I leave for Sherbrooke and he said, “this is the second best I have ever seen your triple jump!”. Mentally, I also feel great. I just want to do what I love, have fun, and do what I know I am capable of. As we would say in my German household, alles ist gut!
That is all for now, I have some serious packing to do!
